Open Coding: This is the first step in analyzing data. You read through the data, break it down, and label the different parts. You're identifying general themes, ideas, or anything important. It’s an exploration phase, so you're open to anything in the data that stands out.
Axial Coding: After open coding, you organize the codes and find connections between them. This step brings together the various pieces and identifies relationships between them. It helps in making sense of how certain ideas or themes are related.
Selective Coding: This is when you focus on the core idea or central category that ties everything together. You choose the main theme around which all the other categories revolve. It's about narrowing down the data to the most important parts that explain the central idea.
Theoretical Coding: In this step, you pull everything together into a final theory. You link the categories and relationships you’ve identified into an overarching explanation of the data. This is the point where you create a theory based on the patterns and relationships you’ve found.
